Creating a Personal Wiki Space

If you would like to play around in your Wiki sandbox follow these instructions:

1. The first thing you need to do is to get your own Wiki page to practice on.
*To do this click on your own name in the upper right hand corner of this screen, where it says "<your name>".

* Roll the cursor over your name. A drop down menu will appear. Click on Preferences. You will go to a new page.

Follow the directions to set up your Wiki. You only have to do this once. A few short steps and you will have your own Wiki page that you will have admin rights on. Name it after your self, so it is easy to remember.

Your Wiki
The reason you should create your own personal Wiki page is so you can have a Wiki on which you have administration (admin) rights. Now that your Wiki is created, click the "Browse Space" icon in the upper right. You will notice a bunch of tabs. The right most tab is "Space Admin". Now click on "Browse Space" icon on this page. You will not see the "Space Admin" tab, as you do not have admin rights.

2. Next, while on your home page, click the "Add Page" link. Right now that should be in the upper right hand corner of your home page. This will create a "Child Page." Name this child page "Wiki Training Page", then click "Save".

3. Now go up to the Breadcrumb navigation bar, at the top of your Wiki page, and click your home page. You should see at the bottom left of the page the word "Children." This tells how many child pages belong to that parent page.

4. Click "Show Children" or "Hide Children''  a number of times to see what happens.

5. Click "View in Hierarchy" to change the view. Click the + to expand the hierarchy list. Click the "Recently Viewed", "Alphabetical", and "Tree" pages to see how the view and functions change.

6. When you are ready, go up to the Breadcrumb bar (that is the bar of words and ">" symbols that should start with "Dashboard" on the left--it helps you find your way back) and click your name to get back to your home page. When you get home, click "Show Children" so you can see the list of child pages.

Now, go through the various examples to try the different Wiki functionalities.
Have fun.
