Students enrolled in courses offered by the College of Business are governed by the Tippie College Honor Code .
Honor Pledge.
All students enrolled in classes under the control of the Tippie College of Business must signify agreement with an Honor Pledge on all examinations. It is not sufficient to have students sign a blanket pledge at the beginning of the course. This requirement affects all programs (undergraduate, MBA and doctoral) and all locations (both on and off the Iowa City campus). The pledge will read as follows:
"I have neither given nor received assistance on this exam."
Instructors may implement this requirement in a variety of ways:
-
- by having students write out and sign the pledge
- by having students sign their name below a pre-printed pledge
- by answering a multiple choice question containing the pledge
- by having students type out the pledge followed by the student's typed name.
Procedures
Faculty members who suspect academic misconduct should meet with the relevant student. The student should be made aware of the charge and the penalty to be imposed. The incident should then be reported to the College.
Reporting
Incidents of academic misconduct must be reported to the Senior Associate Dean, Chuck Whiteman , using this form .
Dean Whiteman forwards the form to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, Beth Ingram . The Undergraduate Office sends a letter notifying the student of the incident; students are informed that a second incident will result in dismissal from the college.
Appeals
Students have the right to appeal an incident of academic misconduct. The appeal form must be submitted to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, Beth Ingram, within ten days of the student receiving the notification email.
Judicial Procedures
Student appeals are handled through the Tippie Judicial Board procedures . Both undergraduate students and Tippie faculty sit on the Judicial Board.
