Faculty Member A person who is employed by the University to teach and research. Members of the faculty can be:
- visiting : the faculty member has a fulltime appointment at another University and is working at the University of Iowa for a temporary period of time
- adjunct: the faculty member has a fulltime job outside of the University, and has a teaching load that represents 50% or less of a fulltime teaching load
- lecturer: the faculty member has a teaching appointment at the University, but is not a tenure or clinical track professor
- Assistant professor: a faculty member who has not achieved tenure at the University
- Associate professor: a faculty member who has achieved the rank of Associate, but has not yet been promoted to Full Professor. usually, an Associate Professor has also earned tenure.
- Full professor: a faculty member who has achieved the rank of Full Professor
- tenured: A faculty member who has achieved a level of excellence in teaching, research and service that merits a permanent appointment at the University. In general, tenured professors cannot be dismissed from the University
Department Executive Officer (DEO) A faculty member who is administratively in charge of a department at the University. In general, the DEO is responsible for assigning instructors to courses, creating the course schedule, overseeing the undergraduate and graduate programs, and the hiring and promotion of faculty.
