REDCap
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture), developed by Vanderbilt, is a secure, web-based application for building and managing online research surveys and databases, is one of the ICTS's premier tools for supporting UI research efforts with the goals of better collaboration and easier data management. REDCap can be used to rapidly develop projects via a point and click interface or by creating a "data dictionary" template file in Microsoft Excel that can easily be uploaded into the application. We offer REDCap as a free resource for UI researchers and their external team members. We also provide consulting, training, and hands-on learning opportunities to support research teams using REDCap.
What is REDCap?
REDCap is a secure, easy to use, web-based application for building and managing data entry forms, online surveys and associated databases. You can use REDCap to rapidly develop a data collection application for your research project using:
- An online, interactive, point and click method from your web browser using the built-in Online Designer.
- An offline, bulk method by constructing a template file in Microsoft Excel and uploading into REDCap.
As the owner of a REDCap project, you can create, modify and deploy the form content without having to perform any programming or database development. In addition, access to the project can be granted to allow other collaborators within or even external to the University of Iowa the opportunity to contribute in any part of the development or data collection process.
REDCap supports built-in report generation which is ideal for a Principle Investigator or data manager to quickly view the data collection results. At the end of the study, the results can be analyzed easily by exporting the data to Excel, SAS or a number of analysis packages.
