You are invited to attend a Sacred Music Concert October 23, 2011!
University of Iowa voice students and mezzo-soprano Katherine Eberle will perform a concert of Sacred repertoire for voice and piano at Trinity Episcopal Church on Sunday October 23, 2011 at 4:00 p.m., 320 E. College Street.
The performance will be free and open to the public.
They will be accompanied by Canadian pianist, Christine Tithecott, a DMA candidate at the University of Iowa. The program will consist of songs primarily written in the 20th century, but will also include three baroque era compositions. The singers are embarking on a year-long project of developing various genres of music. Next semester they will present concerts of Irish and Jazz music as fund raisers for two organizations. This first program will seek to explore the music used in sacred church services by both men and women composers.
The complete program will include excerpts from Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s B Minor Mass, Larsen’s Missa Gaia and other individual songs by: Curtis Bryant, J. Halvor Benson, S. Wesley, Jay Gach, David Evan Thomas, Alan Hovhannes, Lori Laitman, Ronald William, Emma Lou Diemer, and song arrangements of Amazing Grace, All Creatures of Our God and King, and .
“I hope to introduce the audience to some sacred repertoire far off the beaten track of the typical art-song or organ recital,” Eberle said. “This music is extremely beautiful, dramatic and emotional, which will delight those that cherish sacred music for the voice.”
