Requirements: Only undergraduate students may submit plays. You do not need to be a theatre major or have taken a playwriting course in order to submit a script. You MUST be enrolled as an undergraduate for both the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.

Script submissions:  Playwrights may submit up to two separate plays for consideration.   Upload a PDF of each script as separate documents.  If you are submitting more than one script, you may upload both on the same form. The playwright’s name should NOT appear on any page of the script.

Formatting: Submissions must be in proper playwriting format.  If you are uncertain about this format, please speak with any of the playwriting instructors in the Department of Theatre Arts.

Length:  Scripts should be no longer than 10 pages in length. Pages must be numbered. Please include a list of characters and a brief description of the setting. This does not count in the page total.

Production Requirements: Because of the nature of this festival, it is impossible to produce plays with complicated technical demands (a.k.a. violence, intimacy, guns, etc.). Plays with simpler production requirements have a better chance of being selected.

Deadline:  Scripts may be submitted any time prior to the deadline using the online submission form (above, and also accessible on the Theatre Wiki). Please submit your entry no later than Sunday, November 6 at 11:59pm.  Scripts will NOT be accepted after the deadline.

If selected, the playwright agrees to attend auditions, rehearsals, and meetings. Additionally, the playwright cannot make significant changes to the script once submitted without the approval of the festival director.

If you have questions, please contact Festival Director Kristy Hartsgrove Mooers at kristen-hartsgrove-mooers@uiowa.edu or the Theatre Arts main office at theatre@uiowa.edu.
