Guidelines for Advanced Acting Audition preparation and presentation:

Monologue selection
Choose a contemporary monologue from a play of no more than one minute in length.
No accents or dialects, please.
Choose a selection that is as close to your age range as possible.

When preparing, think about the skills you’ve learned in Movement I and Voice I (Breathe!)

Study your text thinking about actions and intentions,  given circumstances, and the journey the character goes through in the course of the speech.

Clothing and Readiness
Warm up for your audition! Dress for success! Choose attire that shows you are serious about your work. No flip flops- that get in the way of a grounded performance. Closed-toe shoes and clothes that are comfortable and support rather than distract from your work. Remember, you’re not going to the gym or out on a sexy date night! If you’re not sure about what to wear, check with a member of the acting faculty.

Slate
Upon entering the room introduce yourself, name the title of your piece, the playwright, and the character you’ll be playing. Take a breath (or two) and begin.

If you have any questions about any of this, talk to a member of the acting faculty: Paul Kalina, Mary Mayo, Caroline Clay, Kristy Hartsgrove Mooers, Johanna Kasimow.
