The Iowa Summer Rep, based in the UI Theatre Arts Department, is producing Oscar Wilde’sThe Importance of Being Earnest this June.  The following is information on auditions, special courses this semester and in the Summer Session, and summer job opportunities.

Auditions

The Iowa Summer Rep is operating under an agreement with Actors’ Equity Association, so only currently enrolled University of Iowa students or AEA members may audition.  All student acting roles are paid positions and students are eligible to earn Equity Membership Candidate points.  We will audition in Iowa City on February 11 & 12:

Saturday, Feb. 11: General Auditions, 1 – 5 pm

Sunday, Feb. 12: Callbacks, 10 am – 2 pm

General auditions will use acting sides; you do not need to prepare monologues.  Once you reserve a timeslot you will receive additional information about the audition process. 

Spring 2017 Courses:

THTR:4691  Projects in Theatre: Producing Theatre

Applied-learning course on union negotiations, contracts, auditions, company management, budgets, marketing, and promotion.  1 semester hour.  Will satisfy the internship requirement for the Arts Entrepreneurship Certificate.  Accepting 2 students; course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.  By permission of the instructor – contact David McGraw for details.

 

Summer 2017 Courses

THTR:2220  Production Lab

Students complete an assignment as a run crew member for Iowa Summer Rep production of The Important of Being Earnest.  Individual assignments will vary but all students will be involved in the operation of both costumes and scenery/props.  1-2 semester hours, can be applied to Production Lab requirement for Theatre majors.  Section 0001 (1.sh.) is open to all students – 4 seats. Section 0002 (2 s.h. – Crew Chief) is by Special Permission; 2 seats.  June 8 – 26.

 

THTR:4691  Projects in Theatre: Producing Theatre

Applied-learning course on union contracts, company management, budgets, marketing, promotion, social media management, and audience engagement.  1-2 semester hours, May 15-June 28.  Will satisfy the internship requirement for the Arts Entrepreneurship Certificate.  Accepting 4 students; course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.  By permission of the instructor – contact David McGraw for details.

Non-Equity Assistant Stage Manager: May 16 – June 25

Dramaturg (will also deliver public dramaturgy presentations prior to each performance), May 23 – June 25

House Manager, June 12 - 26

Production Photographer, dates negotiable

Carpenters, dates vary

Scenic Artists, dates vary

Electricians, dates vary

Costumes/Wardrobe, dates vary
