Students receive recommendation from their studio teacher to audition. Check with your studio teacher for times and locations of Preliminary Auditions. Judged by studio area panel.
 Maximum of 2 performers from each area placed in FINALS. Area Preliminary Auditions must be completed by Friday, November 1, 2019 (noon). Judges will notify Professor David E. Becker of Preliminary Audition results.

Saturday, November 9, 2019: FINAL AUDITIONS 10:30-3:00 p.m., Voxman Concert Hall

Performers in the Finals will be notified of the Audition Schedule by Wednesday, November 6, 2019. Winner(s) (maximum of 2) selected by outside panel of three judges (TBA) will be posted on the Orchestra Website and the Orchestra Bulletin Board (2400) < > immediately following the Competition Finals.

Sunday, May 3, 2020: PERFORMANCE (Complete Work)

Voxman Concert Hall, 3 PM


Any full-time student enrolled in a studio both semesters (graduate students- 9 semester hours, undergraduate students- 12 semester hours).

Memorization: Solos must be memorized and must be performed with accompanist. Students who audition as an ensemble may use music.

Audition Length: Maximum of 15 minutes. Performers should predetermine the 15 minutes of music chosen (with necessary cuts) to be performed at the audition. All movements of the concerto must at least be represented including all major cadenzas. In fairness to all finalists, Professor Becker will stop each performer exactly after 15 minutes.

Repertoire Length for Concert: Minimum of 7 minutes (concert arias, opera selections, Etc.), no maximum length.

Instrumentation: Chamber Orchestra (additional instrumentation possible).

Repertoire: Standard or Rental.
Obtain knowledge of the repertoire availability prior to your audition. Soloists must perform the same repertoire as auditioned.

The Concerto Competition Finals will be open to the general public including faculty, family and friends. In fairness to all finalists, the audience and judges will be asked to please not applaud at the conclusion of each performance.
